Information Collected and How It Is Used

If you are merely a visitor to keeboo.com, KeeBoo does not collect any personally identifiable information about you.
The keeboo.com Web site does however use cookies in some cases. You should refer to the Cookies at keeboo.com paragraph to get more information about this.

When users visit keeboo.com, we may implicitly gather anonymous information such as their network domain as well as information about their operating system and their browser configuration through the Web servers' log files. We use such data only for internal statistical analysis and Web site development as well as to improve quality of our online services. Such data is not associated with any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that KeeBoo has collected with your approval.

Contact information

Some personally identifiable information such as name or e-mail address may be needed by us to correspond with users on support or information issues. For instance, this is the case on the "Partners" and "Feedback" pages of the Web site. We will always let users know what this contact information will be used for before you provide it to us. This information will only be used to offer users support and information and will not be communicated to anyone outside of KeeBoo.
To modify or to remove such information from our database, send an email to privacy@keeboo.com in which you explain precisely what information you want to modify or remove and through what process you initially communicated such information to us.

Cookies at keeboo.com

The KeeBoo keeboo.com Web site does use cookies. "Cookies" is the name of a technology that allows our site to store tokens of information in your browser.
KeeBoo does not use cookies to collect or track any PII. KeeBoo does use cookies on keeboo.com only to identify from which KeeBoo partner a keeboo.com visitor has come from. This partner identifier is not in any way associated to any user's PII. The partner identifier in the cookie allows KeeBoo to redirect the user to the specific KeeBoo Web site area designed for the corresponding branding partner. KeeBoo does not match information in cookies with data about individual users.
Any cookie stored by KeeBoo when navigating to or within the KeeBoo Web site will have a lifetime of no more than 2 months.
If you do not want to receive a cookie from keeboo.com or any other site, you have the option of setting your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, allowing you to determine whether to accept it or not.

KeeBook-it browser plug-in

Registering the KeeBook-it browser plug-in is not compulsory and basic features of the KeeBook-it browser plug-in will still be available to you if you choose not to register. However, to benefit from all the features and services provided by KeeBoo through this product, you should register the KeeBook-it browser plug-in.
If you decide to register the KeeBook-it browser plug-in, you may do so using the KeeBook-it browser plug-in registration wizard. This wizard will appear every time you launch the KeeBook-it plug-in as long as you have not registered.
During the registration process, KeeBoo collects only aggregated and anonymous information.
Some pieces of information are required: age range, occupation, gender, country and ZIP code. You may decide not to provide this information in which case you will not be considered as a registered user. Answering "How did you hear about us?" and "Source name" is optional. The information transmitted to KeeBoo during the registration session is encrypted for transmission over the network using a cryptographic algorithm. When registration is completed, KeeBoo assigns a globally unique KeeBook-it User ID to each registered KeeBook-it user and uses this ID to identify the user’s record in tables specifically dedicated to KeeBook-it in our KeeBook-it User Database. It is this and only this personal ID that KeeBoo uses afterwards to identify a registered KeeBook-it user’s interaction with KeeBoo. You can find your KeeBook-It User ID in the 'Tools > About KeeBook-it' dialog box of your KeeBook-it browser band.

As explained later on concerning the KeeBook Creator software product, the information provided by users at registration is used by KeeBoo to provide users with more personalized and targeted services. It is very important to us that you know that the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) you may provide to us will never be communicated to anyone outside KeeBoo without your prior approval.

When using the KeeBook-it plug-in, no personally identifiable information will be communicated to KeeBoo. However, aggregated and anonymous information identified by your KeeBook-it User ID might be communicated to KeeBoo. This information will consist mainly in which KeeBooks you open via the integrated KeeBook-it bookshelf, and how often.
The KeeBook-it plug-in stores contextual information in your registry. This contextual information contains no personally identifiable information and is merely used internally by the KeeBook-it plug-in in order to provide you with some persistence when you visit a Web page you already had visited before.

KeeBoo does not collect any navigational information about the Web sites that you visit when using the KeeBook-it plug-in.
However, aggregated and anonymous information identified by your KeeBook-it User ID might be communicated to KeeBoo when using specific KeeBook-it plug-in controls as explained below:
KeeBoo uses navigational information only from specific and clearly identified KeeBook-it controls to build a user profile and measure response to partner offerings. For instance, the KeeBook-it plug-in contains a bookshelf control where KeeBoo will be able to push KeeBooks depending on criteria extrapolated from your behavior. Thus we would find it useful to detect which pushed books you read in order to refine you "reader behavior" in order to push even more targeted and personalized books to your KeeBook-it bookshelf. KeeBoo also conducts internal statistical analysis on all this information to support product development and better service offerings.

The KeeBook-it browser plug-in is a self-updating software component. This means that, as soon as you launch it and you are online, the KeeBook-it software component will contact an address located on the KeeBoo Web server in order to check if some of its parts need updating. Since updating will give you newer and better services, and since updating might reveal necessary for compatibility reasons over time, you will not be able to disable this auto-update feature. You must be assured, though, that no personally identifiable information will be communicated to KeeBoo at update time.

KeeBoo does not intend at this time to implement a fully automated method for you to access and modify the information you entered when registering the KeeBook-it browser plug-in. Therefore if you want to know which information we collected about you at registration time and if you want to modify this information, you should send an e-mail to privacy@keeboo.com with "KeeBook-it" in the subject, explaining to us exactly what your request is and providing us with your KeeBook-it User ID that you can find in the 'Tools > About KeeBook-it' dialog box of your KeeBook-it browser band. We shall then get back to you quickly in order to answer your request.

If you, as a registered KeeBook-it user, later want your personally identifiable information to be removed from the KeeBoo-It User Database, send an email to privacy@keeboo.com with "KeeBook-it Unregister" in the subject. KeeBoo will ask you your KeeBook-it User ID that you can find in the 'Tools > About KeeBook-it' dialog box of your KeeBook-it browser band in order to authenticate you. Once you are authenticated, KeeBoo will promptly remove your personally identifiable information from the KeeBook-it User Database. In the future, an automatic procedure will be set up through the KeeBook-it browser plug in itself.
Once you have opted-out of our user database, you will still be able to use the basic features of the KeeBook-it browser plug-in, but KeeBoo will disable your access to every advanced features that are offered to registered users.

KeeBook Creator software registration

If you decide that you would like to buy the KeeBook Creator software, you may register through the KeeBook Creator software registration wizard. During the registration process, KeeBoo collects PII. Some pieces of information are required: gender, first name, last name, e-mail address, shipping address, city, country, ZIP code, year of birth and password you will need to access private areas on the KeeBoo Web site. Providing telephone numbers, field of activity, occupation, subjects of interest, internet connection type, personal buying habits on the internet and "how you did hear about KeeBoo"is optional. KeeBoo collects some technical information at registration: KeeBook Creator version, browser version, and operating system. The PII transmitted to KeeBoo during the registration session are encrypted for transmission over the network using a cryptographic algorithm. At registration completion, KeeBoo assigns a globally unique KeeBook Creator User ID to each registered KeeBook Creator user and uses this ID to identify the user’s record in the KeeBook Creator User Database. It is this and only this personal ID that KeeBook Creator uses afterwards to identify a registered user’s interaction with KeeBoo.

The information provided by users during registration is used by KeeBoo in processes described below that may finance KeeBoo’s business of providing users with upgrades of the KeeBook Creator software and a continuing stream of new offers that match their interests. As described in detail in this policy, your PII is never provided to anyone outside KeeBoo without your prior approval: this approval should be given during the registration process. It may be revoked by users afterwards.

Transfer of PII to a KeeBoo partner

Some KeeBoo partners may request access to some or all of the personally identifiable information you enter during KeeBook Creator software registration process for commercial or statistical purposes on their side. You are always given the ability to refuse the transfer of your information to KeeBoo partners. These options are available either during the KeeBook Creator registration process or afterwards on the Users personal information section on the KeeBoo Web site.

Once your information is transferred to a partner, it will be subject to that partner's own privacy policy and KeeBoo will not be held responsible in any way for use of the information collected by the partner.

What your PII is used for

KeeBook Creator licensees' name and e-mail information will be used by KeeBoo for licensee administration purposes. KeeBook Creator licensees' name, e-mail and address information is stored primarily on KeeBoo’s secure KeeBook Creator User Database. Part or all of this main database might be transferred to the KeeBoo database maintenance team using secured protocol on punctual basis for intensive data mining or database maintenance.
KeeBoo grants itself the right to use KeeBook Creator licensees' name and e-mail information to correspond with them on support or information issues: KeeBoo will provide you with the choice to opt out of this.
Your personally identifiable information will never be disclosed to any third party without your prior approval: KeeBoo provides you with the choice to opt in for this during registration.

KeeBoo partners may be provided with demographic or statistical information on KeeBook Creator users derived from statistical data provided by KeeBoo. KeeBook Creator users will never be personally identified in such demographic or statistical information, unless they have explicitly agreed with that. An example of information that might be provided to partners is "20% of our American users are interested in both sport and technology". If a partner wants to send promotional information to such a demographic group, the request will be passed to KeeBoo. KeeBoo would then relay the partner's promotional information to the appropriate KeeBook Creator users. KeeBook Creator users will always have the ability not to receive such promotional mailings by opting out of them.

The information about your domain and computer configuration obtained through the KeeBook Creator registration process for registered KeeBook Creator users, or through Web servers log files for users visiting our corporate Web site, may be used by KeeBoo in order to understand better how keeboo.com and the KeeBook Creator software are used. Client version, browser version and operating system information may also be used in providing licensed KeeBook Creator users with better and more efficient support.

KeeBoo and your PII when using the KeeBook Creator software

The KeeBook Creator software contains specific and clearly identified controls used for direct interaction with KeeBoo. Those controls include, for instance, links to our Web site pointing to new skins or languages. When a user clicks on such controls, the user’s KeeBook Creator configuration data are sent to KeeBoo while being directed to the right URL in order to provide better service to our users. Thus, we are able to offer users only the skins or languages they do not already have.

The KeeBook Creator software also contains specific and clearly identified partner controls used for branding purposes. For instance, branding banners are integrated in the KeeBook Creator software interface so that it does not interfere with the user's experience. When a user clicks on such a control, aggregated and anonymous information identified by the KeeBook Creator User ID is transmitted to the KeeBook Creator User Database at keeboo.com. The information consists of configuration information so that KeeBoo can identify which partner(s) is(are) involved in this user click-through action. Since most of KeeBoo’s business contracts with partners will use such user clicks-through to measure KeeBoo-partner interactions, KeeBoo ensure these controls are very accurate. The only identifying token included in such information flow sent to KeeBoo while using such controls is the KeeBook Creator User ID, which is an anonymous identifier completely useless without the related data kept secret in KeeBoo’s secure KeeBook Creator User Database.

KeeBoo does not collect any navigational information about the Web sites that you visit or about the content you read or author when using the KeeBook Creator software.
However, aggregated and anonymous information identified by your KeeBook Creator User ID might be communicated to KeeBoo when using specific KeeBook Creator software controls as explained below:
KeeBoo uses navigational information only from specific and clearly identified KeeBook Creator software controls (both KeeBoo and partner controls) to build a user profile and measure response to partner offerings. For instance, we might detect through a KeeBook Creator software control that a user checks every now and then whether any new skin is available from keeboo.com. KeeBoo might then send this user an email when introducing a new skin and measure response to partner offerings. KeeBoo also conducts internal statistical analysis on all this information to support product development and better service offerings.

KeeBook Creator software offers users the ability to make their books available to other people. Users must be aware that any content contained in those books may get available to the public as well, personally identifiable information included.
KeeBoo shall not be held responsible concerning such personally identifiable information transfer, and it is up to the users to remove any content they might consider compromising their privacy from books they make available to other people.

KeeBoo and your PII when using KeeBooks

Since a KeeBook user may not already be a KeeBook Creator user, every user will be given the option when extracting a KeeBook on his computer not to be personally tracked by KeeBoo at all. Alternatively, if the user agrees to being tracked, she will be assigned a globally unique KeeBook Reader ID when launching her first KeeBook. If a KeeBook user later decides to register the KeeBook Creator software, this assigned KeeBook Reader ID will become her KeeBook Creator User ID.
The globally unique KeeBook Reader ID assigned to non-KeeBook Creator users who agree to being tracked does not include any personally identifiable information. This KeeBook Reader ID is useful to KeeBoo in evaluating KeeBook authors' popularity, for instance.

If the KeeBook user agrees with being tracked when launching the KeeBook, KeeBoo records in the user’s operating system registry some information about the KeeBook's identity and location on the user's computer. This information stored in the user’s computer registry will only be used by KeeBoo if that user subsequently installs and registers the KeeBook Creator software. At that point, KeeBoo might be interested in collecting this specific information in order to better evaluate KeeBooks and KeeBook authors' popularity; the user will be provided with the option to pass or not to pass this information to KeeBoo. The user might be offered as well the option to get relevant parts of his KeeBooks imported back into his KeeBook Creator software.

KeeBoo also collects some KeeBook-user navigational information from the clickstream when users have agreed with being tracked and they use certain specific controls in the KeeBook interface.
Those controls are of two kinds: controls used by KeeBoo to enable the KeeBook user to come to keeboo.com in order to download the KeeBook Creator software (e.g.: small "download KeeBook Creator" clip-art or links); controls for branding or partners (e.g.: banners and branded links that the user might find in the KeeBook's pages).
In both cases information is sent to the KeeBook Creator User Database when the user uses such controls if she has a connection to the Internet alive. The sent information will allow KeeBoo to measure KeeBooks and KeeBook authors' popularity. Concerning the partner controls, the information sent will allow KeeBoo to give feedback information to its partners about the clicks its controls have generated.

When a registered KeeBook Creator user generates a KeeBook, his KeeBook Creator User ID is embedded in the KeeBook. When other KeeBook users click on one of the KeeBoo or partner controls present in a KeeBook interface, information is sent to our Tracking database. The KeeBook author's KeeBook Creator User ID is included in this information, so that KeeBoo will be able to identify and reward the most popular KeeBook authors.

In any case, the only identifying token included in the information flow sent to KeeBoo while using a KeeBook is user identifiers such as KeeBook Creator User ID or KeeBook Reader ID, which are anonymous identifiers.

KeeBoo uses cookies in KeeBooks in order to make KeeBook reading more intuitive and comfortable. The information stored in the KeeBook cookies does not include PII nor can it be associated with any other PII stored by KeeBoo.

KeeBoo Information Storage Policy

All your PII is stored in KeeBoo’s secured class "A" data center. The KeeBoo Web server is located behind a firewall and all KeeBoo systems are protected through industry standard and certified security technologies and methodologies. KeeBoo has technological and operational security functions in place to protect personally identifiable information from loss, misuse, alteration or destruction.
Only authorized employees have access to the data you provided and that access is limited by need. KeeBoo employees who have authorized access to the part or all of the PII you provided have agreed to maintain the confidentiality of such information.

KeeBoo does not retain collected data indefinitely, and sets specific retention time limits for specific information.
The PII entered by a KeeBoo service user will be removed from the our User Databases from the very moment when this individual user asks us to be unregistered from the said service. As described in the Opt-Out Choices paragraph, users are offered several options to have their PII removed from our User Databases.
PII collected in online user input forms (such as user support or partner request input forms) will automatically be deleted after a one year storage.

KeeBoo Information Disclosure Policy

KeeBoo will not sell, give or disclose any user PII to any third party unless we explicitly obtain your permission in advance or as may be required by subpoena, search warrant, or other legal processes. This means that KeeBoo will never disclose to any third party information in a form that could be connected in any way to a specific user. KeeBoo does perform statistical analysis on its user database, and may use, sell or give aggregated and anonymous data derived from the user database to third parties.

Some KeeBoo partners will have special policies applicable to their own users.
For instance, some partners might reward their users for specific actions by giving the user points. This offer might take place in the KeeBoo context, so that we might have to report to such a partner that one of his users has done such action. This means that we will have to decide together with the partner of a common identifier allowing respectively KeeBoo and the partner to identify the user in their own database. It is then this identifier that KeeBoo will communicate to the partner on specified user actions. KeeBoo will not disclose any personally identifiable information such as name or e-mail to the partner without your prior approval.

Children's Guidelines (Individuals Under 13 Years of Age)

KeeBoo understands the importance of protecting children's privacy in the interactive, online world. Children under 13 are indeed special. Unlike adults, they may not be fully capable of understanding the consequences of giving out personally identifiable information. However, children often understand how to use electronic media better than their parents do and the latter may not have the ability or the opportunity to intervene in their children's choices about giving out personally identifiable information. This is why KeeBoo believes that protecting the privacy of children is very important.
KeeBoo encourages parents and guardians to spend time with their children when using online services, should they be on Web sites or through use of client software. No information should be submitted to KeeBoo by visitors or users under 13 years of age without the consent of their parent or guardian.

Children and the keeboo.com Web site

The keeboo.com Web site is a general audience Web site and does not intentionally target or solicit children 13 and younger.

Children and the KeeBook Creator software

During the KeeBook Creator software registration, we may be able to detect that the year of birth that the user entered is one of a child under 13. In such a case, KeeBoo will display a prominent notice requesting the child to ask a parent or a guardian for permission and guidance to answer the questions. We will also request the contact and security information (e-mail and password) to be entered by that parent or guardian.

The KeeBook Creator software does not specifically target or solicit children 13 and younger but we believe that children would have great interest and fun in using the KeeBook Creator software because of its educational qualities. However, the KeeBook Creator software does not have specific controls to protect children from the ability to distribute personally identifiable information without prior parental consent. For such reason, the TRUSTe Children's Guidelines are not being met by the KeeBook Creator software.

Opt Out Choices

KeeBoo believes that users should have the ability and opportunity to have extended control over the communications and services we direct to you.

Your Personally Identifiable Information

Users have the ability, through the "My Profile" private Web area on keeboo.com, to opt out of our secure KeeBook Creator User Database. If a user makes such a request, KeeBoo will promptly remove the user. However, since collecting user information is a key feature of KeeBoo’s business model, the KeeBook Creator software user license would require the user to uninstall the KeeBook Creator software. Users also always have the ability to request that KeeBoo remove their user PII from our KeeBook Creator User Database by e-mail at privacy@keeboo.com, and the same process will apply.

Mailing Lists

Users will have the ability, through the "My Profile" private Web area on our corporate Web site, to decide to or not to receive e-mails from the various mailing lists related to the KeeBook Creator software they would have subscribed to. Instructions explaining users how to unsubscribe from mailing lists will also be provided at the end of keeboo.com e-mails sent to you through these services.
Concerning promotional mailing list specifically targeted to users by KeeBoo partners, they will all be moderated by KeeBoo and every communication will contain indications explaining users how not to receive such promotional mailing. However, since being able to target users with promotional mailing might be contractually required by some KeeBoo commerce partners, users might be required to uninstall the KeeBook Creator software and only they would have their user PII removed from our KeeBook Creator User Database.

Correcting and Updating Your Information

Correcting and updating your contact information

KeeBoo wants to keep all of its users informed about recent KeeBoo news and events. KeeBoo also wants to be able to communicate with its users on a support basis. At last, you should not forget that the e-mail address you entered when registering the KeeBook Creator software is the one you have to use when you want to log on to your "My Profile" private Web area. Therefore, if your e-mail address has changed or is incorrect, you may update or correct your contact information. To do so, you may either use your "My Profile" private Web area or if you cannot succeed in logging to your "My Profile" you still have the option to send us an e-mail to privacy@keeboo.com so that we can get back to you.

User access to PII at keeboo.com

Licensed KeeBook Creator software users may access their own profiles on the keeboo.com site to verify the accuracy of the information about them stored by KeeBoo. This access is protected by user-selected passwords and the access session is SSL-protected. However, as SSL is not supported by every browser and Web server that may be used by the user to access keeboo.com, we will also provide the user the option to edit his profile through a non-secured HTTP session as well. Users editing their profile in a non-secured session should be aware that their PII may be observed as it passes between keeboo.com and the user’s browser, and this type of access is at the user’s own risk.

Users may edit the information in their profiles to correct any errors or outdated information.
Access to the private profile area on the KeeBoo Web site is protected by a login form where the user has to enter the e-mail address and the password entered when registering the KeeBook Creator software. If you happen to forget your password, you will find near the login form on the KeeBoo Web site details on how to receive the password hint you entered when registering the KeeBook Creator software and which should help you remember of your password.

You may also at any time send an email to privacy@keeboo.com in order to have some of your personal data corrected or removed from our KeeBook Creator User Database.

Accountability

KeeBoo follows guidelines set forth by the EU Data Protection Directive and TRUSTe, which are designed to provide baseline standards of privacy protection adherence. In addition, KeeBoo complies with applicable government privacy regulations. KeeBoo will always keep this Privacy Policy current with TRUSTe, government regulations and its own practices.

This Privacy Policy may be subject to changes from time to time and KeeBoo will post prominent notices on keeboo.com as soon as changes proves to be major from users' standpoint.
KeeBoo wants users to always be as informed as possible of its privacy practices and this is why we would appreciate that you check back periodically this Privacy Statement.
